Race for the Cure 2009

Everytime I have participated in this 5k, I have always had someone close to my heart who was fighting the fight. My late father-in-law, Kent Ethington's battle with Wagoners was the first. I know this race is specific to breast cancer awareness but there's not a race for everything.
My list of people I run for has grown significantly in the past year and for the sake of anonimity, I will not mention all the names on my list. But if you are reading this... you know who you are. Know that my prayers are with you and that I am here for you and I hope you overcome. This world needs to keep people like you. We love you.
I will make one exception though and only because her story is a story of celebration... my mom. My mom found a small lump which turned out to be cancerous. The doctor could hardly believe she was able to find it through self examination. When I think of strength, she is one of the first to come to mind. She looked cancer in the face and did not show any fear. I recall her getting one dose of morphine at the hospital to take the edge off the pain. She went home with a prescription for a truck load of Lortab and did not use one pill. I love you mom!

Grace, Pokey (in the sling), Mom, DJ
Tita Helen, Grace, Pokey, Mom, Ate Knorrie, Heddy
There were some really funny shirts this year such as: Got SuSu? (I guess it means milk in a polynesian language but it means breasts in tagalog), Breast Cancer sucks and Bookin' for Boobies. The ladies in the pink are all survivors.
Mom and Pokey

By the way, my time was a lethargic 26:31. There were several ladies pushing strollers that beat me. Not very good for my self esteem.

Keep on forgetting that Tita was a survivor. We had the relay for life on April 24-25 and didn't even think of Tita as a survivor because she never showed fear of cancer. We are all proud of her! Want to see PR too..... but first I want to see RP coz I have not been home for 11 years!
